 Game Policies/Guidelines (MUST READ!)
« Thread Started on Sept 15, 2008, 2:03pm »

Some of you may not be familiar with online style RPGs while others may be old hands at it. But despite your level of experience, online RPGs vary in format. Some are strictly PBeMs or played via IMs, while others are played in blog format such as with LJ or played on a message board, such as this one. Therefore, here are some guidelines to help you with in-game posting on this board and to make your gaming experience here more enjoyable.

Posting Perspective
All in-character game posts should be written in third person perspective. This means you should write in past tense and in narrative format, just like you'd read in a book of fiction.

Roleplaying Standard
A certain standard is expected to be shown by all players -- this includes the basics like grammar, spelling, punctuation, not posting constant one-liners but also common role play courtesies. However, with that said, no one is perfect nor is anyone expected to be. We are only human after all – or Jaffa … or Wraith -- but a basic knowledge of English spelling and grammar is expected to be demonstrated. If in doubt, use the handy-dandy spell check feature the message board is equipped with and/or proofread your posts before submitting them. Also check Wolfie-Mod's Galaxy Grammar Guide.

Further more, be aware that if you consistantly display poor grammar skills -- which becomes an annoyance to other players -- or are called in for frequent 'consultations', the Admin reserves the right to remove you from the game.

Game Flow
Whenever a new post is made in reply to another, it should advance the thread/story a step further. It needs to be more than just a reply to something previous, but also a continuation of the previous post that adds something more to the thread/story and can then be replied to in turn. In addition, whether or not you like another character's action (unless they’re wildly OOC, harming your character without permission or godmoding -- all 3 of which should be taken to a Mod, by the way), any action presented by the other character should be accepted and continued. If a character starts heading to the left, encounters gunfire in their post and ducks as a result, don't rewrite that you followed them to the right, ignore the gunfire and continue with what you were doing. Basically, you should judge every reply you make through acceptance/continuation. In other words, does your reply accept the previous player’s actions, even if it’s to argue verbally, and does it add another step to the story for the other player to continue with?

Missions/Storylines
All missions, game wide (storylines encompassing both the SGC and Atlantis), and galaxy wide (storylines involving only one galaxy) events require Modly approval. This is not to punish you in any way, but simply a means in which to help you bring your ideas to fruition. By bringing your proposal to us, we can help you hammer out the details, see how many characters will be involved, what characters will need to be involved, if any NPCs need to be created specifically for your idea, recruit the needed players, etc. Unless your idea is too ambitious to pull off, it’s rare that any will be denied. So, please, don’t be shy in bringing anything up. This is your game as much as it ours and a lot of the game plots spring from your ideas.

Beyond what’s mentioned above, players pretty much have free reign over what and where they post. We strive for an easy, creative gaming environment and invite you to strike up your own storylines and join others as it suits you.

Posting Length
Since no one likes to be one-lined, please try to give your posts some substance. One-lining people is not only annoying, but it also makes it difficult to respond to. Try to make your posts longer than a sentence and if you have to, describe what your character is wearing, doing – facial expressions and hand gestures can express so much more in a post than “spoken” words can convey – thinking, or feeling. Describe the surroundings; sights, smells, and sounds. All can help lend substance your posts.

New Thread Format
You should start each new thread with the following information:

Who: (Everyone who’s involved in your thread or you’re tagging to play, and whether it’s “Open” for others to join or “Closed”.)
What: (What the general event or premise of the thread is, ie: surprise party, off-world mission, etc.)
Where: (The location where the thread takes place.)
When: (The date the thread takes place, ie: in month, day, year, and time format, or give a general idea like between thread X and Y or after episode 4:05 of SG-1/Atlantis, etc.)
Status: (Incomplete or Complete just so we’ll know if a thread is still active or not.)

Additionally, every time another character enters the thread, please update that part of the information accordingly.

Redirects
If you end a thread to continue it somewhere else (ie: leaving the Mess Hall for the Gate Room), then please leave a redirect in your last post to the new/other thread so the other players will know where to continue action.

Player Courtesy
Please be courteous to other players involved in your thread and give everyone a chance to respond before moving on. No one likes to be run over. Likewise, if you’re not ready to post a response then let others know that it’s okay to move ahead so they’re not sitting around waiting on you.

Please note: That like the Rules, the Admin reserves the right to change, amend, or add to these policies at any time. If such an instance occurs, current players will be notified. Additionally, if you have any other suggestions not mentioned above that you would like to see implemented, please let us know. And thanks for reading!
